We stopped at Rydeen’s to check out the impacts, we were very impressed, they were a home run sire group. Topshelf certainly puts together a well balanced genetic package. His ability to consistently sire both sexes with exceptional eye appeal, calving ease, and performance.
The first calf crop by him was very well accepted in our past bull sale, real world cattlemen aggressively bid to own them.
He sires cattle that are easy on the eye, strong-topped, long-sided, lots of volume, and easy-fleshing. They are very docile and easy to handle.
Topshelf seems to keep the white off the underline and feet.
His calving ease is exceptional, birth weights are very predictable, a bull that we decided to breed some heifers to after calving him on cows.
Now two years of calves are on the ground with his ability to consistently sire lighter birth wts in the high 70s and low to mid 80s without sacrificing performance.
We look forward to calving heifers bred to him this fall, and will use him on heifers again this spring. We feel he is an excellent choice as a calving ease bull because his calves turn into more than most calving ease heifer bulls progeny do.
Use him on cows and there is no doubt commercial cattlemen will readily accept and bid to own them.
Topshelf puts together a very a acceptable EPD profile and has an outcross pedigree to most Simmental pedigrees.
